Some modifications and fixes to the Fowler 4F and Flying Scotsman, such as consuming water properly, manual injector control, ability to see water and coal levels in engine and tender, letting other locos use the Scotsman's corridor tender, etc. Will do the Jubilee and Stanier at some point.
Flying Scotsman
Changelog
- 2024/12/22 - Coal will now only enter the firebox if the firebox door is open, added usable angle cocks, fixed bug with rear coupler, lowered substitution chance.
- 2024/12/18 - First version.
Changes include:
- Water level is no longer infinite and can be used up.
- Live & exhaust injector water valves, live & exhaust trim valves, live & exhaust injector steam valves are now usable (unfortunately they are not animated).
- They are all set to open by default.
- Water level test valve in the tender made functional (unfortunately it is not animated). Open it and then mouseover the pipe markings.
- Animated the coal level in the tender, reflecting the amount of coal left.
- Added ability to see amount of coal in the firebox (open the firebox door or cat flat).
- Added ability to see the water level in the gauge glasses.
- Added ability to see amount of coal in the tender (open the coal door).
- Added an animated tender drain valve (I don't know if that is where it is in real life, I was guessing).
- Added ability to disconnect and reconnect the tender.
- Added usable angle cocks.
- Fixed the fireman's seat, so you can sit in it.
- Fixed the rear coupler, so it can't couple to hook couplers when the drophead is up.
- Fixed the tender connection point for water hoses.
- Disabled all the notifications.
Notes
If you let the boiler water level get too low, the service will end with a fusible plugs melted message. If you go too fast it can consume more water than it can get from the injectors, so you need to watch the gauge glasses carefully (not sure if I can change how much water the injectors deliver).
If you let the amount of coal in the firebox get too low, the service will end.
Won't be compatible with any mods that modify the Flying Scotsman's FRM, RVD, RVM or RVV files, since one mod will overwrite the other.
The tender water level gauge does not work properly. Although it is animated, it seems to show the value in litres instead of gallons.
If you have Laika's Peak Forest / Spirit of Steam Random Mixed Mk1 Formations mod, the Flying Scotsman will substitute in.

Formation designer doesn't let you couple the corridor tender to the 4F, so I have uploaded a formation to creators club here.

Gauge glasses now display % of water. If it reaches 0, the service will end.

Comments
Does this mod work with automatic firing modes, or is it just manual firing?
The AI should be able to control the firebox doors, blower, damper, etc in automatic firing mode, I don't think it understands how to use the injectors though.
Coal and water I think are used up in any firing mode

did you just fix steam simgraph ?
The mod mainly just reactivates stuff that DTG disabled for some reason, I can't change the simulation itself
For example, the steam locos already consume coal, but the coal in the tender wasn't animated so it was hard to notice
They also consume water, the gauge glasses are already animated, etc, but DTG set the boiler to have an infinite source of water. The mod just turns that setting off
