The Desiro UK is Siemens Mobility UKl's first time bringing their commuter rail concept, as a platform, over to the United Kingdom. Its name signifies the uniqueness in design just to serve British railways, and has now made it so far as to debut in the Train Sim World franchise as a driveable model train. These multiple units make the most of Siemens' industrial engineering by capitalising on Krefeld and Erlangen's ongoing Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) technology: SIBAS. This power management system functions as a traction and inverter controller (TCU/ICU) using digital signal processors (DSPs) that tie to a 32-bit microprocessor... SIBAS 32 as you may have heard. There are different versions of this container for different applications. It controls the converters so that they generate the correct waveforms by Field Oriented Control. Not only this, but it boasts a real emphasis and Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) by modulating the voltage carrier - thus scattering the PWM frequency power density across the spectrum in a periodic fashion. Armstrong Powerhouse called this the "UFO" sound, which is complete nonsense to say the least. The method is called Periodic Carrier Frequency Modulation (PCFM), and can be found in multiple trains across the world! The following mod is here to do Desiro UK traction drives the justice they deserve, to get it as correct-sounding as I can:
Epic Traction Audio
- As the clock speed of IGBTs increase, the subtle timing errors become more apparent with undershoots and overshoots - fraying sidebands about the frequency carrier which has been added
- Per my inductor recording of the Class 350, the 100Hz periodic modulation of the carrier constricts to 0Hz for tolerance of said sidebands before sync https://youtu.be/e-DmEZH1WJc?t=100
- The synchronous modes have been mixed into the traction audio using real Class 380 recordings and can always be heard up to and beyond the maximum speed of the train
- PCFM sounds are crystal clear, match the current waveforms to the letter, and there are separate interior and exterior sounds
- 750VDC mode will play separate, correct, PCFM sounds on the Class 350 at exclusively the 1450Hz frequency band (heard at 2900Hz) as per reality using Class 450 recordings
- Remixed audio includes real gearbox sounds from the Class 380
Insane Number of Flange Squeals
- I've added over 60 individual squeaks, squeals, and squarks which have been mixed to play non-stop / one after the other like there's no tomorrow
- All flanges are taken directly from my recordings with minimal editing: https://youtu.be/U0Qmtj-myWU?t=37
- On top of this, there are 4 looping flange sounds in the background for very slow speed, slow speed, moderate speed, and high speed rolling
- Included are the suspension creaks of the old Siemens SF5000 commuter rail bogie types for Desiro - recorded from the Class 380
New Running Recordings
- As usual, I have added many more detailed running recordings taken from the Class 350 and Class 380
- There are separate interior and exterior recordings added in
- Further away, separately recorded approach sounds are mixed in to create an authentic rush including the tingling track
Many New Joint Sounds
- A total of 122 track joint sounds have been added to the Desiro UK's audio mix recorded from the Class 350, 380, 450, and 700 to give the best experience
- Separate interior and exterior joint clips will play with air absorption
Remixed Miscalleneous Noises
- These include the likes of fans and HVACs using Class 380 and Class 450 recordings
- There are a variety of Class 380 sounds which have a random chance of playing: high fan speed sounds, low fan speed sounds, and delays in fans starting up for both cab and saloon
- The Class 350 will play both HVAC whirrs and ACU whines outside
- New transformer and converter sounds have been added with improved looping and clarity
- Various Class 380 door alarm sounds have a random chance of playing as well: new speakers, and worn-out/damaged speakers with separate interior and exterior recordings
- A random assortment of Class 350 / Class 450 door alarm sounds will play by chance, with separate interior and exterior recordings including the leafs themselves
- This mod replaces and remixes the horn of the Class 350/380 with new recordings that have greater reverb

Not sure about the constant squeels etc. I started at Edinburgh Waverley and lasted until Edinburgh Park, seems a bit too much, especially on straight sections. Cab HVAC seems a bit too loud also.
I've fixed the issue. And I won't be changing the volume of the HVAC - it's a pretty realistic level and drowns out a lot of sound which must be a blessing for the driver on Friday nights. You don't have to believe me, but you can believe the video: https://youtu.be/fl5LF47WRT4?t=22
Thank you very much for these sounds.
Thanks for the update. Excellent work again.
Fantastic sound mod, really doing the 380 justice as it rightfully deserves. Great job on this, as per usual. :)
I've got a very specific request (as I dont know if its just me or not who dislikes this). In the original sounds, there's this almost clicky-type sound in the cab that can often be heard during low speeds but also seems to occur even at higher speeds at given points and for some reason it absolutely grinds my gears.
If I knew how to edit pak files I would remove them myself but I dont have the knowlegde and could only request a version that doesn't have these (would happily tip you for the extra work).
I'd be happy to replace the cab rattles...
That would be great my friend, I'm eager to hear what comes of it should you end up doing so.
Excellent sound mod. One small comment tho and that is that the wheels are a little too screechy. in real life they dont screech that often and when they do its usually on tight turns and even then its not a constant screech and not as loud as it is in game. Never the less excellent mod and i really hope one day you give the 314 the same treatment as that really needs a sound rehash.
No changes will be made to the flange sounds.
Understandable. Quick question for you. Do you plan on making an announcement pack for the class 380 or is that more hassle than its worth? Just curious
I won't be doing something like that I'm afraid.
Having 350's as my local source of traction, I think that this is a top quality sound mod, I always love when ItsYa165 goes above and beyond to provide us with the sounds we deserve, 10 out of 10 my dude, just need a Fife Circle 170 sound mod now :)
This mod is perfect all round, well volume balanced too. Love it. Look forward to the 350 mod!
Class 350 sound mod will release soon with more sound features like with the Class 390 sound mod.
Using it now and I'm blown away! Thank you very much. - One question I have is, the cab HVAC seems to have cut out for me after hitting about 40mph, is that intentional or a glitch?
I have no idea and I've tried a million things to try and prevent it from cutting out like that but nothing I do seems to work... and the audio doesn't restart even when set to restart if culled by other audio starting.
Dang that's a pity!
Its the same for the original DT sound, that also cuts out so maybe they need to fix something. For now, you could move the sound to the cab fan system on the back wall of the cab. That sound never seems to cut out, however, the sound emitter radius needs widening since it only really comes out of your right ear when sitting in the seat.
Alternatively, you could try console command au.debug.soundwaves 1 (or au.debug.soundmixes 1) and see if your exceeding the 32 sound sample limit as that would cause the sound to cull and not restart - for example, there could be a sound you assume is culled and is not.

You have COOKED with this one!
This is a Good Sound Mod
Thank you!!! Switching the 350 to the exterior cam & then not hearing ANYTHING except maybe the wind until you moved the cam away from the train was annoying!
Keep up the excellent work!
I love this mod but maybe I am doing something completely wrong, with the class 350 when I throttle up the train it makes a constant alarm sound which seem to come from underneath it. Also happens when applying brakes. Is this something I am missing to set correctly or is it just some sound from this mod that always makes this much alarm noise ?
The Class 350 has a traction sound that sounds like an alarm
splendid job man. i needed it cuz the dtg have not doing a great job with sound. (Im looking at you LNWR for the retracted licence but that is another mod). anyways thanks for the mod i really liked it :D
Great work! You really nailed the sounds. Do you think you could also create the sound for the ICE-T train?
It depends on whether they desire to commit to it in due course, but someone else wishes to address the BR411...
Great stuff!
Love hearing all the noises I'm used to around the Class 450's at work come into the game.
I find it so strange how high the noise is in DC mode compaired to the 450s and 444s.
As always, love your work
Both the 350s, 444s, and 450s share 1450Hz mode. It's just that the 444/450s use a 600-700Hz frequency ramp prior to 1450Hz where the 350s didn't. To simplify, here's a breakdown of every Desiro EMU in the UK as it's been:
Cl350, 750VDC, 1450Hz > 3P
Cl350, 25kVAC (upon commissioning), 500Hz > 1000Hz > 3P
Cl350, 25kVAC (current), 675Hz > 1000Hz > 3P
Cl360, 25kVAC (upon commissioning), 500Hz > 1000Hz > 3P
Cl360, 25kVAC (current), 675Hz > 1000Hz > 3P
Cl360, Thai, 500Hz > 500-1000Hz > 3P
Cl380, 25kVAC, 675Hz > 1000Hz > 3P
Cl444, 750VDC, 575-675Hz > 1450Hz > 3P
Cl450, 750VDC (upon commissioning), 1450Hz > 3P
Cl450, 750VDC (current), 575-675Hz > 1450Hz > 3P
Cl700/707/717, 750VDC, 575-675Hz > 1450Hz > 5P
Cl700/707/717, 25kVAC, 675Hz > 675-725Hz > 1000Hz > 5P
Thanks for the info! Sorry for the late reply
Hey itsya 165, have noticed that sometimes the idle AC noise outside is hella loud compared to other trains. Is this a problem on my end ? Quality sounds otherwise though man. Having them all installed makes WCML much more enjoyable!
All seems alright to me
Could just be me man, not used to the change yet. Appreciate it anyway!
Amazing. Don't understand, why DTG can't do a same level of sound quality...
Wonderful!
Could you extend this to the other Desiro, the 700/701?
