Open NEC is a free and open-source Train Simulator Classic mod that greatly enhances the functionality of passenger locomotives released for the Northeast Corridor (Washington, D.C. to Boston) locale. It's a complete rescripting effort, using code written from scratch, to achieve an ultra-realistic driving experience.
Drive easier with quality of life improvements.
A scrolling menu for changing destination signs. A progress bar for switching dual-power locomotive modes. Automatic bell when blowing the horn. And, oh, did we mention fading ditch lights?
Safety systems? We have safety systems.
The mod includes complete implementations of the two safety systems in use on the corridor. Amtrak's Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System (ACSES) finally gets a proper rendition, with a braking curve that provides advance warning of any reduction in the track speed limit. Automatic Train Control (ATC), which enforces the cab signal speed, is delightfully bug-free and is universally compatible—no longer do you need to switch it off just because your consist didn't ship with the route DLC you're driving. A must-have if you play scenarios from the scenario packs or the Steam Workshop.
Plays nice with other community content.
The mod is fully compatible with Fan Railer's popular physics and sound enhancement packs. Plus, it sends the consist messages needed to power the next generation of community content, like the Amfleet I Enhancement Pack and Ragno's Viewliners.
Enhances almost everything that moves passengers on the Northeast Corridor.
Currently, the complete list of enhanced locomotives includes:
- Amtrak EMD AEM-7
- Amtrak Acela Express
- Amtrak Bombardier HHP-8
- Amtrak Siemens ACS-64
- Amtrak GE P32AC-DM
- Amtrak GE P42DC
- NJ Transit Bombardier ALP-45DP
- NJ Transit Bombardier ALP-46
- NJ Transit GE Arrow III
- NJ Transit EMD GP40PH-2B
- NJ Transit EMD F40PH-2CAT
- NJ Transit Comet IV Cab Car
- NJ Transit Comet V Cab Car
- NJ Transit Bombardier Multilevel Cab Car
- MARC MPI MP36PH
- MARC Bombardier Multilevel Cab Car
- Metro-North GE P32AC-DM
- Metro-North Shoreliner Cab Car
- Metro-North Bombardier M7
- Metro-North Kawasaki M8
(If your Train Simulator collection isn't quite yet complete, don't worry—each script replacement is standalone and doesn't depend on the full set of DLC to work.)
Requirements
This is a standalone mod with no additional requirements, but Fan Railer's physics and sound mods are suggested for an even more realistic experience.
Installation Instructions
Copy the contents of the Zip archive’s Assets\ folder into your own Train Simulator Assets\ folder, overwriting files if prompted.
If you intend to use Open NEC in combination with other mods, such as Fan Railer’s enhancement packs, always install Open NEC last. This ensures that Open NEC’s script files are not overwritten by versions shipped by other mods. If installing Open NEC breaks another mod in some way, we would appreciate a bug report.

When I try to extract the zip, it gives errors saying it's keeping me from copying the files, and the only thing that extracts are the folders.
Looks like my Zip file couldn't be extracted if you were using Windows Explorer. Thanks for pointing it out; I've uploaded a fixed version.
Alright! No problem!
hey. i've noticed some glitches in some trains. for example, on the acs-64, the bell does not automatically turn on when using the horn, the ditchlights don't automatically flash when using the horn if the ditchlights are in the on position, and the pantograph still sparks even when the train is stopped. there are more glitches i could tell you, but i would much rather contact you somewhere else and tell you there. i would also like to make it compatible with my enhancement mod if you could. the only things that would need to be changed is being able to acknowledge by going into suppression, and the quill activating the bell and ditchlights. since i made new brake notches, you can only acknowledge when the brakes are at service 70%, instead of suppression, which is between service 50% and service 60%, and since the quill in both me and fan railer's mod is separate from the lua script, the quill does not activate the bell and ditchlights.

Hello,
Everytime I try to take njtransits alp45 out of diesel mode to electic it just turns off the diesel but i hear the electric. I dont know what i am doing wrong i put the panagraph up
Hi, could you explain which scenario or quick drive route you attempted the switch in, and at what location?
If you spawn the ALP-45 in diesel mode, it's important that you only do so in diesel territory. The simulator is not aware of which section of track you are in and it will assume no overhead wire is available until you reach one of the specially designated change points, such as the start of electrification between Elberon and Long Branch on the NJCL. Hence, if you spawn in diesel mode but inside electric territory, electric mode will not be available, even if you can see the overhead wires right above your train!
Its a very much needed addition to the game, but I found that it doesn't work properly with the Multilevel Cabcar combined with the P32, (used in conjunction with a freeware stand LIRR pushpull set)! from RSC when used on the LIRR route! However individulally they work fine on the route with the provided modifications!
Hi, I tried spawning a NJT MultiLevel cab car leading a Metro-North P32 on LIRR and I didn't encounter any issues. Could you give me your exact consist? It matters which DLC the MultiLevel and P32 came from, too.
