---HISTORY---

The St. Louis - San Francisco Railroad, otherwise known as the Frisco, ordered it's first batch of 4-8-2s between 1923 and 1926. These were built with the purpose of replacing the aging 4-6-2s on Mainline Passenger services. The 1500s were more than capable of handling the short grades and sharp curves of the Ozarks with many of them hauling 14 to 20 Heavyweights at upwards of 60 to 70 MPH. Running Light they were capable of 90 MPH and had a working Boiler pressure of 210 PSI. By the late 1940s heavier power quickly displaced the 1500s and by the dawn of the diesel age they had all be phased out. Out of the 30 example of the 1500s a total of 6 were saved from the scrapper's torch, with the most famous being the Frisco 1522.
