Fixed default ballast showing up on the lineside in a recent WCML patch update, plus some minor texture alterations.
This pack aims to improve the look of British content that use the default 'Coal' covered texture that is used on many UK routes which looks really awful and most of the time are completely inaccurate for the region & condition they're based on.
To fix this, I have created a new set of ballast shades/colours from scratch to represent different conditions of the track ballast from fresh to well-used.
These include:
- Weathered/oxidized brown/pink shade (for a mixture of different railway lines)
- Modern light grey shade (for busier metro & high speed railway lines)
- Medium grey shade (for more traditional double track commuter as well as branch lines)
Included are some before & after .GIFs from both GOBLIN & WCMLS to give you a clear idea of just how substantial the changes are as well as some general screenshots.
Standard Routes currently supported:
- Cardiff City Network: Radur & Coryton – Penarth & Bae Caerdydd
- East Coast Main Line: Peterborough - Doncaster
- London Overground Suffragette line: Gospel Oak - Barking Riverside
- West Coast Main Line: London Euston - Milton Keynes
Legacy route support:
For routes that do not utilise textures from the "UK Content" folder, and instead use the older referencing method (where each one has it's own set of specific ballast textures)
- Birmingham Cross-City Line: Lichfield - Bromsgrove & Redditch
- Blackpool Branches: Preston - Blackpool & Ormskirk
- East Coastway: Brighton - Eastbourne & Seaford
- Glossop Line: Manchester - Hadfield & Glossop
- Midland Main Line: Leicester - Derby & Nottingham
- Mildmay Line: Stratford - Willesden Junction
- Northern Trans-Pennine: Manchester - Leeds
- Peak Forest Railway: Ambergate - Chinley & Buxton
- Southeastern Highspeed: London St Pancras – Ashford Intl & Faversham
- Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe
- Tees Valley Line: Darlington - Saltburn by-the-sea
- West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle
As time goes on the lists above will be gradually updated to support both brand new routes as well as older "Preserved Content" routes
As always, thanks for reading and enjoy!

Thank you for this mod, finally makes the ballast look more realistic.
Good stuff here
Why was this made in april fools?
What relevance does that have exactly?
Thanks for this, nice one.
Thanks, what an improvement!

Yes
Hi, to clarify, do i need to install Standard Route Ballast Pack if I have installed all others ballast pak ?
You do not need to have that one installed, no. It's separate from the other ballast paks.
for consistency with other pak names: rename "!!UKLegacyContentBallast-SEHS-London-Ashford-Faversham.pak" --> "!!UKContentLegacyBallast-SEHS-London-Ashford-Faversham.pak"
Duly noted, it has been changed.
!!UKContentLegacyContentBallast-SEHS-London-Ashford-Faversham : second "Content" should be deleted
Happy now? Please stop with the nitpicking!
Thank you, perfect
The newsest mod "!!UKContentLegacyBallast-SEHS-London-Ashford-Faversham.pak" is TSW5 Only and the other mods can still be used in TSW4? Or none can be used in TSW4...
You can give it a try but I do not know if they will work with TSW4, I just dont have the space to install more than one TSW game.
Okay thank you for the reply and will test as soon as I can, just getting updates, for now, more pertinent family matters need my attention. Thanks again.
Excellent work just like the previous versions!!!
Good luck.
Kind regards, tof
Excellent work ! Can you made this for Birmingham Cross City Line, please ?
Yes. I will be giving that route some new ballast textures at some point. Dunno when but it's on the list to do.
I have now added Birmingham Cross City to the list.
Seems to be working on the Cardiff route for me even without the update
You'll need to update the "!!UKContentBallastEnhancementPack.pak" otherwise the Landscape ballast textures on Cardiff will be the incorrect shade.
OK thank you
The Glossop Manchester mod started crashing for me recently.
